Capacity-Building Seminar Held for Journalists, Media Officials, Writers and Youth in Sar-e-Pul

On 4 Rabi al-Thani 1448 AH a one-day training seminar on “Enhancing Intellectual, Ideological and Professional Capacity” was held in Sar-e-Pul Province for a large number of journalists, media officials, writers and young people.
The seminar was organized by the Deputy Ministry of Publications Affairs of the Ministry of Information and Culture, in cooperation with the Sar-e-Pul Directorate of Information and Culture.
The seminar was attended by Mawlawi Muhajir Farahi, Deputy Minister of Publications Affairs; Mawlawi Abdul Ghafar Haqnema, Director of Information and Culture of Sar-e-Pul; several directors of the Ministry of Information and Culture; Mawlawi Saifuddin Motasim, Director of Information and Culture of Jawzjan; and officials from local government institutions.
At the opening of the seminar, Mawlawi Abdul Ghafar Haqnema welcomed the participants and said that the media, journalists and media professionals constitute an important segment of society. He called on them to contribute to the preservation of Islamic and national values and to work with strong commitment and motivation for the development of the country.
Mawlawi Muhajir Farahi, Deputy Minister of Publications Affairs, said that the media and journalists have a responsibility to inform the public about historical mistakes, injustices and past actions. He added that the Islamic Emirate’s objective is the well-being of the people and that achieving this requires time.
Mr. Farahi further said that the media today have considerable influence in society and are capable of accurately and promptly communicating the government’s achievements and activities to the public and the international community. He added that the media can serve as a bridge between the people and the government.
Mawlawi Safiullah Raed, Director of Monitoring of Mass Media; Mawlawi Abdul Haq Hamad, Adviser to the Deputy Ministry of Publications Affairs; several provincial officials; and university lecturers also addressed the seminar. They spoke about the principles of journalism, the responsibilities of the media and the importance of professional journalism.
The speakers said that constructive cooperation among media outlets, mutual respect, the sharing of experience and joint discussions on challenges can contribute to improving the quality of media activities.
They further emphasized that journalists should consider the accuracy, relevance and potential consequences of every news item, report, image and message before publishing it. They stressed that, while adhering to professional principles, journalists should give serious attention to Islamic and national values, unity, stability, the public interest and Afghan culture.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Ghulam Sakhi Frotan, speaking on behalf of the journalists, welcomed the training programme and said that journalists in Sar-e-Pul Province are committed to preserving the Islamic system and national values. He also expressed their readiness to provide full cooperation in efforts aimed at the development of society.
Mr. Frotan called for similar programmes to be organized in Sar-e-Pul Province in the future to further strengthen the intellectual and professional capacities of journalists and young people.
