Herat Information and Culture Director Meets Turkish Consul General to Discuss Cultural Cooperation
Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi, Director of Information and Culture of Herat Province, met with Tzjan Qazioglu, Türkiye’s Consul General in Herat, to discuss strengthening cultural cooperation and promoting greater attention to the province’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
During the meeting, Azizi expressed appreciation for Türkiye’s interest and cooperation in the cultural sector, noting that the people of Herat have a strong interest in culture, writing and literature. He said Herat has long been recognised as a city of poets, writers and prominent cultural figures, adding that introducing future generations to the city’s historical and cultural heritage is one of the key responsibilities of cultural institutions.
Azizi also referred to major reconstruction and development projects underway in Afghanistan and called on friendly countries, particularly Türkiye, to continue and expand their support and cooperation in the cultural and development sectors.
The Turkish Consul General, meanwhile, highlighted Herat’s historical and cultural significance, saying the province has always held a special place in the region’s history. He said Türkiye conducts educational and cultural activities in Herat through its consulate, Afghan-Turkish schools and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) office, and stressed that the cooperation would continue.
He further announced that an international conference on Sultan Husayn Bayqara would be held. He also reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to continued cultural cooperation and support for reconstruction and development projects in Afghanistan, particularly in Herat.
