On Monday (24th of Dhul-Hijjah 1445), the Department of Archeology of the Ministry of Information and Culture informed about the identification of 214 ancient sites along the route of the Qosh Tepa Canal in Balkh and Jawzjan provinces.

According to Engineer Zabihullah Sadat, Head of Archaeology, the professional delegation of the department identified, surveyed, and recorded 123 ancient sites in Balkh province and 91 ancient sites in Jawzjan province during two rounds of investigation.

These sites date back to various periods, many belonging to the Greek and Bakhterian periods. In addition, eight historical artifacts, including clay pots, clay oil lamps, semi-formed animal figures, and another clay pot, were found during the investigation in Jawzjan province and have been handed over to the Department of Information and Culture for preservation.

Mr. Sadat expressed gratitude to the archaeologist's team for their achievements and activities and promised to protect the country's cultural heritage.

He also mentioned plans to work with the National Development Company on the construction of the Qosh Tepa Canal route to protect GPS-marked points of ancient and historical sites along the route to prevent the destruction of ancient sites during the excavation of canals.
