Head of the Aga Khan Cultural Services Meets with the Minister of Information and Culture
On Tuesday (21 Rabi al-Thani 1447 AH), Engineer Ajmal Maiwandi, Head of the Aga Khan Cultural Services, met with Mr. Shir Ahmad Haqqani, Minister of Information and Culture, at the ministry’s office.
At the outset, Engineer Maiwandi presented an overview of the organization’s activities in Afghanistan. He noted that, in addition to ongoing initiatives, the Aga Khan Cultural Services has successfully restored and rehabilitated more than 160 historical monuments across several provinces, including Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Badakhshan, Logar, and Ghazni. He further mentioned that the restoration of the Babaji Mosque in Ghazni has recently been completed and handed over for public use.
Minister Shir Ahmad Haqqani described Afghanistan as the cradle of great world civilizations, emphasizing that the preservation of cultural heritage is among the ministry’s top priorities.
He commended the Aga Khan Cultural Services for its valuable contributions to the protection and restoration of Afghanistan’s cultural heritage, calling for enhanced coordination and continued collaboration. The Minister further highlighted the significance of cultural endeavors, stating that culture serves as a vital foundation for the identity and recognition of nations and civilizations.
In conclusion, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding, promoting, and strengthening the country’s cultural heritage and emphasized the importance of expanding and sustaining mutual cooperation in this regard.
