Sheikh Abdul Rahman Tayebi, Deputy Minister for Arts and Culture, visited the Department of Archaeology and met with its officials and staff to review their work and provide guidance on the effective fulfilment of their responsibilities.

During the visit, discussions focused on the identification and documentation of archaeological sites and artefacts, archaeological surveys and excavations, the restoration of historical artefacts, and efforts to prevent illegal excavations.

Sheikh Tayebi acknowledged the efforts and dedication of the department’s officials and staff, emphasising the importance of professional commitment, accountability, coordination and mutual cooperation in carrying out their duties effectively.

He also stressed the need for the proper implementation of the decrees, orders and directives issued by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate, alongside improvements to the department’s working procedures.

He highlighted the importance of archaeology in identifying and preserving a country's historical identity, civilisational heritage and cultural assets. He noted that the study of archaeological sites, historical artefacts and ancient remains provides valuable and reliable information about the history of nations, past civilisations, social life, scientific developments and cultural values.

Referring to the attention given to the sector, Sheikh Tayebi said that the first decree issued by the Leader of the Islamic Emirate concerned the preservation and identification of archaeological artefacts and sites, reflecting the importance attached to archaeology.

The Deputy Minister also underscored the importance of scientific research and archaeological exploration, calling for greater efforts to identify, register and document archaeological sites, preserve historical artefacts, and oversee the transfer of discovered objects to the National Museum and regional museums.

He identified strengthening scientific and research programmes in archaeology, preventing illegal excavations, and protecting the country's archaeological heritage and historical sites as key responsibilities of the department.
