On Monday (24 Jumada al-Thani 1447 AH), the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Afghanistan, Mr. Zhao Xing, met with the Deputy Minister for Arts and Culture of the Ministry of Information and Culture, Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi, at the deputy ministry. During this meeting, a comprehensive discussion was held on expanding historical and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting highlighted the importance of historical and cultural ties between Afghanistan and China, underscoring that both countries maintain their relations based on mutual respect, goodwill, and shared interests.

Mr. Azizi stated that the effective preservation, protection, and documentation of historical sites requires technical and professional training, standardized equipment, and modern facilities, and that the People’s Republic of China could play a significant role in safeguarding Afghanistan’s historical heritage, enhancing professional capacities, and implementing international standards.

Ambassador Zhao Xing described Afghanistan’s historical heritage as important and reiterated the statement of the President of China, emphasizing that “just as Afghanistan’s economic projects are important to us, so too are Afghanistan’s historical heritage and cultural artifacts.”

Mr. Xing proposed that, through coordination with the Chinese Embassy, a formal senior delegation from the Ministry of Information and Culture travel to China to hold detailed meetings with the relevant Chinese governmental institutions. These meetings would focus on joint cultural cooperation, including the preservation of historical artifacts such as those in Mas Aynak, and facilitate the necessary arrangements for such collaboration.
