44 Archaeological Sites and Historic Monuments Identified in Eight Provinces

On 8 Rabi al-Awwal 1448 AH, a delegation from the Archaeology Committee visited Ghazni, Zabul, Uruzgan, Kandahar, Helmand, Nimroz, Farah and Herat provinces to assess archaeological sites and historic monuments. In total, 44 sites were assessed, and decisions were made to establish and define their protective boundaries.
Sayed Zabihullah Sadat, Director of Archaeology, said archaeological sites and historic monuments are an important part of Afghanistan’s identity, history and cultural heritage.
As part of the process, the Archaeology Directorate’s committee delegation not only assessed the sites and defined their protective boundaries, but also worked with officials from the provincial Directorates of Information and Culture and local communities to organise public awareness and educational programmes on the importance of cultural heritage.
Mr Sadat said such programmes play an important role in preserving Afghanistan’s historical and cultural heritage. He added that they also help raise public awareness and prevent the destruction of archaeological and historic sites, unauthorised construction and other potential damage to these valuable cultural assets.
