Publishers’ Role and Cooperation Are Crucial to Strengthening and Promoting a Culture of Reading

Dr. Rafiullah Samim, Director of Public Libraries at the Ministry of Information and Culture, emphasized the importance of publishers’ role and cooperation in further strengthening and promoting a culture of reading during a meeting with representatives of the Private Publishers Association held at his office.

Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Samim stated that the Ministry is committed to promoting reading and encouraging greater engagement with books across the country. He noted that the contribution and cooperation of the Private Publishers Association are essential to advancing these efforts.

He assured the Association’s representatives of the Directorate’s full support and cooperation and encouraged publishers to donate copies of their newly published works to public libraries so that readers and book enthusiasts may benefit from a wider range of literary and educational resources.

Dr. Samim further stated that the Directorate of Public Libraries will endeavor to organize book launch, introduction, and review programs for newly published works. He also noted that the Directorate will continue its efforts to recognize and honor distinguished authors and cultural figures for their valuable contributions to the country's literary and cultural development.

Representatives of the Private Publishers Association, in turn, expressed their commitment to fully cooperating in initiatives aimed at promoting books and fostering a culture of reading. They also shared their challenges and recommendations with the Director of Public Libraries and called for the continuation of such constructive meetings and consultations.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of sustained cooperation in promoting books and reading culture and reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration in this field.
