The Minister of Information and Culture visited the laboratory, antiquities exhibition, museum, and restoration areas at Kabul Bala Hissar.
On Saturday (8th of Dhul-Qa‘dah al-Haram 1447), H.E. Sheikh Shir Ahmad Haqqani, Minister of Information and Culture, led a delegation to inspect the laboratory, the antiquities exhibition, the museum, and multiple restoration sites within Kabul Bala Hissar.
During the visit, the Minister was accompanied by Qari Khabib Ghafran, Head of Public Relations and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Information and Culture; Shafiq Ahmadzai, Head of Foreign Relations and Cultural Attaché; and several technical and professional officials.
At the outset, Engineer Ajmal Maiwandi, Head of Cultural Services at the Aga Khan Cultural Foundation, briefed the Minister in detail on the laboratory’s functions, the museum, ongoing restoration efforts across various sections, and the historical significance of Kabul Bala Hissar. He noted that the Aga Khan Cultural Foundation, in close coordination with the Directorate of Archaeology and the Directorate for the Protection of Historical Monuments under the Ministry of Information and Culture, has implemented numerous projects across several provinces. Several of these projects have already been completed, while work on others is ongoing.
According to Mr. Maiwandi, artifacts discovered in the area are first examined and assessed in the on-site laboratory. They are then preserved in the local museum for a designated period before being transferred to the National Museum.
The Minister also toured different sections of Kabul Bala Hissar, describing the site as one of the country’s most significant historical landmarks. He emphasized that Kabul Bala Hissar stands as a powerful testament to Afghanistan’s ancient civilization and historical identity, reflecting the country’s enduring role as a center of culture and human civilization throughout history.
