The Quran Manuscript and Bayhaqi Publications Directorate, under the Deputy Ministry for Publications Affairs of the Ministry of Information and Culture, is preparing a major cultural programme to mark 24 and 28 Asad, Afghanistan’s independence days.
Mawlawi Abdul Alim Zunwak Mufti-Zada, Director of Bayhaqi Publications, said the programme will include an appreciation ceremony marking the handover of the printing press to the Ministry of Information and Culture in accordance with the order of the esteemed Amir al-Mu’minin (may Allah preserve him). It will also include the opening of a permanent cultural market for Afghan publishers and booksellers, a major book exhibition, and the presentation of newly written works by the Bayhaqi Publications Directorate and private publishers.
He said the programmes are intended to support the printing industry, introduce the works and publications of publishers and booksellers, promote a culture of reading and book use, and create opportunities for the further development of cultural activities and publishing in the country.
Sayed Ahmad Saeed, a lecturer at Kabul University and deputy head of the Publishers’ Union, also expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the Islamic Emirate for establishing, for the first time, a publishing and cultural centre for publishers and booksellers. He described the initiative as an important step towards promoting a culture of reading and reflecting the authorities’ attention to books and reading.
The programs will begin after 24 Asad and continue for one week. During this period, works by private publishers and booksellers, as well as government publishing institutions, will be displayed, alongside a range of cultural programmes and activities.
In addition, dedicated spaces have been allocated at the printing press for publishers, representatives of private printing houses, a booksellers’ centre, calligraphers, painters, miniature artists, bookbinders, designers, paper producers and importers, an authorship and translation centre, representatives of tourism companies, a centre for the printing and sale of works published by the Bayhaqi Publications Directorate, and cultural products, including handicrafts and Afghan-made goods.
