The professional archaeological team from the Archaeology Department of the Ministry of Information and Culture conducted archaeological investigations at the ancient site of “Rashki Hill,” located in Mata Khan District, Paktika Province. As a result of these excavations, alongside structural remains, 84 portable archaeological artifacts made of stone, clay, bone, glass, and metal were recovered.
According to preliminary studies, the discovered artifacts are related to the Kushan and Kushano-Sasanian periods, with a historical timeline extending from the 1st to the 4th century CE.
Archaeologists stated that, based on the findings, this area likely served as a pottery production workshop.
The Director of Archaeology at the Ministry of Information and Culture, Syed Ziaullah Sadaat, who closely monitored the excavation and research process, expressed satisfaction with the results of these discoveries and stated that after completion of documentation, registration, and cataloguing procedures, the recovered artifacts were handed over to the Paktika Provincial Department of Information and Culture, while the non-movable remains were properly preserved in a standard manner.
Mr. Sadaat added that such activities, in addition to shedding light on hidden and unknown aspects of history, contribute to the enrichment of museums, help people become more familiar with their historical and cultural heritage, and also create employment opportunities for local residents.
