Thousands Attend Funeral Prayer for National Poet Matiullah Turab in Jalalabad
The funeral prayer for the esteemed national and patriotic poet Matiullah Turab was held today at the Shaheed Muallim Awal Gul Stadium in Jalalabad, drawing thousands of mourners from across the country. The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, poets, cultural figures, and citizens from Nangarhar and other provinces.
Mawlawi Amanullah Mustaghfir, the Director of Tranah and Taranom directorate representing the Ministry of Information and Culture, expressed profound sorrow over Turab’s passing, describing it as a significant loss to the nation’s cultural and literary heritage. He extended heartfelt condolences to Turab's family and the Afghan people.
The ceremony concluded with prayers led by Mawlawi Lal Mohammad Siddiqi, Deputy of the Ulama Council, along with the attendees, who collectively prayed for forgiveness for the departed and patience for the grieving family.
Matiullah Turab was born in 1350 AH (1971 AD) in the Khogyani district of Nangarhar province. He spent much of his life in Khost province with his family. He passed away on 23 Saratan 1404 SH (July 13, 2025) at the age of 54 due to cardiac arrest and was buried in Koz Bahar, a village in his native Khogyani district.
