Murad Khani Heritage Area to Become a Symbol of Art and International Tourism
The Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture at the Ministry of Information and Culture, Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi, along with Sadruddin Tajik, the Deputy for Urban Development and Planning at Kabul Municipality, and officials from the Turquoise Mountain Foundation, visited the historic Murad Khani site in Kabul. This visit was part of ongoing efforts to preserve cultural and historical heritage while revitalizing significant urban areas. During the visit, they thoroughly evaluated the restoration work conducted by the Turquoise Mountain Foundation. Detailed discussions focused on the area’s future expansion, strategic planning, and upcoming development projects.
Deputy Minister Azizi emphasized, “Murad Khani is one of Kabul’s most important historical assets. We must preserve the identity of this site. Our goal is to transform Murad Khani from an abandoned and overlooked area into a vibrant historical and cultural hub that attracts Afghan citizens and draws international tourists to witness our art, culture, and history.”
Supporting this vision, Deputy Mayor Sadruddin Tajik confirmed the Kabul Municipality’s commitment, stating, “The municipality stands ready to contribute by organizing the area, maintaining cleanliness, and providing the necessary urban facilities to ensure a successful transformation.”
Officials from the Turquoise Mountain Foundation also presented plans that include constructing a cultural market, restoring ancient buildings and alleyways, and establishing a dedicated cultural space for tourists. This initiative aims to elevate Murad Khani as a model for cultural preservation and sustainable tourism, reinforcing Afghanistan’s historical legacy on both national and international platforms.
