AKDN welcomes Afghan Govt.’s Proposal for Restoration of Herat’s Historic Minaret
The Cultural head of Agha Khan Development Network (AKDN) has sent a letter to President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, in which Prince Karim Agha Khan welcomed Afghan government’s proposal for restoration of Herat’s 5th minaret of Musallah, a statement from the presidential Press Office said Wednesday.
The AKDN has promised to soon start the process of rebuilding the minaret, according to the statement. The letter sent from the AKDN Cultural Office, as stated in the statement, said that the network has full experience as it has rebuilt Abdullah Ansari Timuri worship place and Ekhteyarudding Palace and would use its needed expertise to repair and restore the 5th minaret of Herat.
Praising the quality works of the AKDN in rebuilding of historical sites in different parts of the country, particularly, in the country’s western Herat province, the country’s president said the network has reconstructed many historical and cultural areas in coordination with the government of Afghanistan, which is appreciable.
First phase of the minaret survey and reconstruction process will be funded by the government of Afghanistan and in the second phase, government would seek support of its international partners for the fundamental restoration of the minaret and AKDN would carry out the technical works, the statement added.
