National Conference of Journalists Held Under the Theme: “Authentic journalism, informed public, and cohesive society”
On Tuesday (30th Rabiʿ al-Awwal 1447 AH), the Directorate of Press and Publications Oversight of the Ministry of Information and Culture, together with the “Voice of the People” mechanism, held the National Conference of Journalists. The theme was “Authentic journalism, informed public, and cohesive society.”
The event was attended by Sheikh al-Hadith Noor ul-Haq Anwar, Director General of the Administrative Office; Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi, Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture; senior government officials; and hundreds of journalists from across the country.
Mawlawi Safiullah Raed, the Director of Press and Publications Oversight, delivered the opening remarks. He stressed the importance of true journalism and an informed society. He highlighted that journalists and media play a key role in addressing societal challenges and noted that ensuring true journalism is a shared responsibility requiring unity and collective effort.
Mr. Anwar, Director General of the Administrative Office, delivered a comprehensive speech on the theme, stating:
“Today’s topic is of great value. If true journalism is upheld in society, it will bring about many positive outcomes. Journalism is a sacred profession with its own principles, and truthfulness is one of its most important foundations. For every journalist, seeking and upholding truth in every matter is their foremost duty.”
In his address, Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture Mr. Azizi highlighted the significance and value of journalists, noting:
“The role played by Afghan journalists during recent crises is commendable. They worked with strong determination to preserve national unity and to support the people in times of hardship. Journalists fulfilled their responsibility in raising awareness and mobilizing aid for affected citizens.”
He further advised journalists to remain mindful of the sensitivities within Afghanistan’s diverse ethnic communities, stressing that even small issues can create major tensions. On behalf of the Ministry of Information and Culture, he assured continued cooperation with media leaders and journalists.
During the event, the Theater Department presented a stage performance on the 17th decree of the Esteemed Amir al-Mu’minin (may Allah protect him), which focuses on discouraging harmful traditions and unnecessary expenses.
Following this, speeches were delivered by Dr. Lutfullah Khairkhwa, Director of Financial Services and Supervision at Da Afghanistan Bank; Mawlawi Sibghatullah Wathiq, Deputy Minister for Finance and Administration at the Ministry of Education; Abdul Latif Nazari, Deputy Minister for Policy at the Ministry of Economy; and Abdul Matin Qaneh, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior.
Additionally, university professors Dr. Mohammad Shafiq Wardak and Mohammad Yahya Raheel presented academic talks on the subject matter.
In the concluding session, discussions were held on the overall state and challenges of journalism in Afghanistan, and responses to participants’ questions.
