Minister of Information and Culture Visits Ikhtyaruddin Citadel, Herat Museum, and Hariwa Darulfunun
Saturday (2 Dhul-Qa‘dah 1447 AH) During an official visit to Herat Province, the Minister of Information and Culture, Sheikh Khair Ahmad Haqqani, accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Publications Affairs, Mr. Muhajir Farahi, toured several prominent cultural landmarks, including the Ikhtyaruddin Citadel, the Herat Museum, and the Hariwa Darulfunun.
Speaking during the visit, the Minister highlighted the vital importance of safeguarding the nation’s historical heritage. He noted that these monuments are an essential part of Afghanistan’s national identity and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to preserving, restoring, and properly introducing them to future generations through sustained and practical efforts.
He also underlined the role of cultural and educational institutions, such as museums and darulfununs, in shaping public awareness particularly among young people and strengthening their connection to the country’s rich history and cultural legacy.
Mr. Muhajir Farahi, Deputy Minister for Publications Affairs, emphasized that the Ministry allocates a dedicated annual budget for the protection, restoration, and rehabilitation of historical sites. He added that ongoing efforts aim to ensure these cultural assets are preserved in line with professional standards.
Officials at the Ikhtyaruddin Citadel and the Herat Museum reported that the sites attract around 3,000 domestic visitors each month from across the country. This steady flow of visitors reflects a growing public interest in Herat’s historical and cultural heritage.
The visit comes as Herat continues to be recognized as one of Afghanistan’s most significant cultural and historical centers, remaining at the heart of ongoing heritage preservation and tourism development initiatives.
