The 64th Anniversary of Kabul Times Daily Commemorated in Kabul
On Saturday (12 Ramadan 1447 AH), the 64th anniversary of The Kabul Times Daily, Afghanistan’s state-run English-language newspaper, was celebrated in a special ceremony organized by the Directorate of State Newspapers under the Deputy Ministry for Publications of the Ministry of Information and Culture. The event was held at the historic machine khani building in Kabul.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister for Publications Muhajir Farahi, Deputy Minister for Arts and Culture Mawlavi Atiqullah Azizi, senior ministry officials, foreign diplomats and cultural attachés, as well as prominent writers, intellectuals, media executives, and journalists.
In his speech, Deputy Minister Muhajir Farahi reaffirmed that The Kabul Times Daily serves as the voice of the nation and has faithfully fulfilled its mission of presenting Afghanistan’s situation and developments to the international community. He highlighted that The Kabul Times remains one of the most important platforms through which the Islamic Emirate engages with foreign audiences.
Deputy Minister Farahi also noted that numerous visual, audio, and print media outlets are currently operating across the country and assured that the Ministry of Information and Culture continues to extend full support to all media institutions.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister for Art and culture Mawlavi Atiqullah Azizi emphasized the essential role of media in society. He stressed that the success of any media organization depends on accurate and impartial reporting, and described The Kabul Times Daily as one of the country’s longstanding and reputable media institutions that has maintained its presence across decades. He referred to it as an important bridge in communicating Afghanistan’s reality to the world.
Mr. Azizi urged media professionals to uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity by providing accurate, comprehensive, and unbiased information to the public.
As part of the program, an exhibition showcasing all printed editions of The Kabul Times Daily from its foundation to the present day was displayed, offering attendees a rich overview of the newspaper’s history and evolution.
It is noteworthy that The Kabul Times Daily, published in English, was established on 8 Hoot 1340 (27 February 1962) during the reign of Mohammad Zahir Shah and under the leadership of Prime Minister Mohammad Daoud Khan, with Sabahuddin Kushkaki as its first Editor-in-Chief. Initially issued two to three times a week, it became a daily newspaper about two years after its founding and has continued publication ever since.
