Joint Committee Stresses on Reviewing Cases of Violence Against Journalists

Chaired by Second Vice President and head of government and media joint committee Sarwar Danesh, a meeting of a joint committee of the government and media was held yesterday.
In the meeting, members of the committee by following decisions of the committee’s previous meetings review reports of security organs, Attorney General Office (AGO) and Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) in connection with steps taken by the respective institutions related to violence cases against journalists, access of journalists to information, the issue of journalist support fund and regulation draft of the joint committee.
Criticizing recent report of Afghanistan Journalists Center in connection with shortcoming of the government in reviewing various cases of violence against journalists, second vice president Sarwar Danesh considered the report as unfair, stressing that the government has made continuous effort to reduce cases of violence against journalists and review such cases as creation of the joint committee was a clear example.
He further said that all cases of violence against journalists have been reviewed after the creation of the joint committee.
In the meeting, senior deputy minister of interior asserted that 26 cases of violence against journalists have occurred and reviewed by the ministry since the last meeting of the joint committee.
