MCC Company Shares Prepared Plan for the Protection of the Mes Aynak Historical Sites with the Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture

Officials of the Chinese MCC Company presented their prepared plan and research on the protection of historical sites and cultural artifacts in the Mes Aynak area of Logar Province to Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi, Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture at the Ministry of Information and Culture. The meeting also included discussions about the proposed plan for extracting copper from the area's significant copper deposit.

Attendees included Engineer Hamidullah Habibi, Head of the Mes Aynak Project at the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, the Economic Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Kabul, and representatives from the MCC Company.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi stressed not only the economic importance of Mes Aynak but also its historical and cultural significance. He emphasized that while implementing the copper extraction project, serious attention must be paid to preserving historical artifacts. He called for joint efforts to address potential challenges related to this issue.

Highlighting the importance of cultural heritage, the deputy minister stated that the protection of historical assets must comply with national and international laws.

The Economic Counselor from the Chinese Embassy spoke about the shared responsibility in safeguarding historical artifacts. He pointed out that the Mes Aynak area holds significant historical importance for the relations between China and Afghanistan. Therefore, preserving the site's historical artifacts should be viewed as a joint responsibility of both nations.

Representatives from the MCC Company not only presented their mining extraction plan but also shared their research findings and professional insights on protecting historical artifacts in a presentation format during the meeting. They committed to providing detailed information to the technical committee of the Ministry of Information and Culture.
The Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture emphasized the need for a joint memorandum of understanding among the Ministry of Information and Culture, the MCC Company, and the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum.
