The Minister of Information and Culture met with the UN Special Representative and the Chief of UNAMA.

On Wednesday, February 19, 2025 (Sha’ban 1, 1446 Hijri), Mawlawi Khairullah Khairkhwa, the Minister of Information and Culture, held a meeting with Rosa Otunbayeva, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), at his office. Their discussions focused on cultural and political
matters. During the meeting, Minister Khairkhwa highlighted Afghanistan’s rich historical and cultural heritage. He emphasized that the country is home to thousands of ancient monuments and archaeological sites, making it one of the most historically significant nations in the world. He stressed that these cultural landmarks are not only integral to Afghanistan’s identity but also a shared heritage of humanity.
The minister reaffirmed the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s commitment to constructive engagement with the international community, urging regional and global partners to enhance their cooperation with Afghanistan across various sectors.
In response, Rosa Otunbayeva and the UNAMA Chief underscored the vital role of cultural diplomacy in strengthening international relations. They emphasized the importance of raising public awareness about the value of cultural heritage for its protection and preservation.
After the meeting, Ms. Otunbayeva assured the minister of the UN’s ongoing support in coordinating efforts with relevant institutions to safeguard Afghanistan’s cultural heritage through collaborative initiatives.
