Archaeology Directorate Delegation Evaluates Historical Sites in Nangarhar

A delegation from the Directorate of Archaeology, under the Ministry of Information and Culture, led by Director Zabihullah Sadat, conducted a field visit to several historical and archaeological landmarks in Nangarhar Province, including Jalalabad city and the districts of Behsud and Kama.
During the tour, the delegation visited notable sites, such as the Bahraabad Stupa and the Las Pa Las Baba Shrine. These visits aimed to assess the condition of the sites and highlight their historical significance.
Mr. Sadat emphasized that Nangarhar’s rich heritage, particularly from the Kushan era, reflects the deep-rooted civilizations that once thrived in this region. He noted that the province plays a crucial role in understanding Afghanistan’s ancient cultural identity.
He further pointed out that the pre-Islamic stupas, with their distinct architectural style, are clear indicators of the area’s archaeological richness and its connection to the historic Gandhara civilization. Ancient texts refer to Nangarhar as "Nagara" or "Nagarahara, " underscoring its long-standing cultural importance.
The delegation also met with the Deputy Governor of Nangarhar, where Mr. Sadat stressed the need for increased public awareness and stricter measures for the preservation and protection of historical sites. He reaffirmed that these efforts align with the directives of Amir al-Mu’minin (may Allah protect him).
