Creative Artists Can Reduce People Pain: Minister Zuhair

Acting Minister of Information and Culture, Mohammad Tahir Zuhair attended a ceremony marking the International Art Day at the Conference Hall of the Ministry here on Thursday, saying that the creation of artistic and cultural works was effective in reducing the grief and sorrow of the citizens, Bakhtar News Agency reported Friday. Speaking about the history of art, its place and value in the society, the acting minister said despite the fact that war, insecurity and crisis in recent years have caused great damage to the art and culture of the country, the artists have fulfilled their mission.

“They tried to create works of art that have been effective in reducing the grief and motivation of the people.”

“Although in our time art and culture are not mentioned in an honorable way and the Ministry of Information and Culture has faced many problems, in this respect, but the ministry’s strategy is to support art and the artist,” said the acting minister.

According to him, a part of Dar-ul-Aman Palace is to be given to the Ministry of Information and Culture and the artistic and cultural works of artists will be exhibited there.

He also spoke about the efforts of this ministry to build a new building of the ministry which is a symbol of the glorious culture of the country, and added that the current building of the Ministry of Information and Culture and its related parts couldn’t show the cultural glory of the country.

At the event, Teymour Shah Hakimyar, Deputy to the High Arts Council, also spoke and praised the artists who worked hard in the dark days of the Taliban to help the Afghan artworks remain safe.

He called on the leadership of the Ministry of Information and Culture to pay more attention to the transfer of some of the works of the National Gallery to the Dar-ul-Aman Palace and that the National Gallery building is currently being under renovation process and some of its works may possibly be destroyed or damaged.

Afghan Film Director Sahra Karimi also spoke in the ceremony calling on the authorities to pay more attention to artists.

“There is no guarantee or future for the artists in the financial, legal and social spheres,” she said, calling on artists to support each other with their arts, the agency concluded.
