Workshop For BNA Provincial Journalists, Directors Opened

Deputy ministry of publication affairs for information and culture and UNESCO office to Afghanistan opened yesterday training workshop titled ‘access to information and freedom of expression’ for journalists in Kabul.
The four-day workshop was held for capacity building of directors and journalists working in 15 provinces for Bakhtar News Agency. In opening ceremony of the workshop, deputy minister of publication affairs for information and culture Fazil Sancharaki while praising UNESCO office for Afghanistan said holding capacity building workshops for director of BNA was very effective, hoping that such workshops would be held in future too.
Stressing on importance of the right of access to information, Sancharaki hoped that directors of BNA could have effective role in their provinces and share their experiences with their colleagues by completion of the capacity building workshop.
In the ceremony, a UNESCO official spoke and said, “I hope the program can be effective and enable local journalists and officials to express their
Visions in connection with public decision-making process in particular development process”. It is determined that BAN local journalists and officials will be invited in capacity building workshops which will be held in future.
Holding such workshops is part of MoU which will be soon signed between MoIC and UNESCO office to Kabul.
In the workshop, BNA general director Khalil Menavi said that awareness of law on access to information was very important for media officials, journalists and all citizens of the country as awareness of the law and its implementation would result in creating good governance and bringing transparency and accountability.
