Background:

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has received a grant from the World Bank toward the cost of achieving Afghanistan Extractives for Development.  The Project is being implemented through a Program Management Unit (PMU) within the Ministry of Information & Culture. The PMU is now seeking an individual’s consultant with experience in the field of cooking for the position of Chef/Cook.

Job Summary:

The successful applicant will work under the direct supervision of the Field Officer with Ministry of Information and Culture. The purpose of this position is to provide meals, have the responsibility for the day to day running of the kitchen ensuring compliance with relevant Health & Safety and Food Hygiene requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities


The main duties and responsibilities of Chef/Cook are comprised of the following;


Ensure equipment is correctly cleaned and stored 
• Ensure waste is handled according to the health and safety regulation
• Preparing freshly food for staff and visitors.
• Ensure all food is prepared in a sanitary and appealing manner.
• Providing tea/ coffee for all rooms in the Office.
• Buy raw materials for food at a cost within the daily budget given to him.
• Keeps the kitchen clean and keep all cups, plates and kitchen utensils washed and clean at all the time.
• Fulfill any other duties assigned by the Field Officer.

Reporting obligation:

Qualification and Experience:

The candidate should have the following qualification:
• High School graduate, diploma in relevant field is preferred. 
• At least one year work experience in the same capacity;
• Must be an initiator in taking responsibilities and have skills in setting priority and managing work pressures.
• Basic understanding of professional cooking
• Ensure safety and sanitation
• Commitment to quality service, and food, and beverage knowledge.
• Effective food management
• Excellent Kitchen management
• Good communication skill
